It’s not just a matter of adjusting the dimensions of an existing piece of furniture in the catalog by a few centimeters. It’s starting from scratch: taking the actual measurements of the space, understanding how the furniture will be used on a day-to-day basis, and building the design around that information—not the other way around. The result is a piece that doesn’t exist anywhere else.
A catalog piece of furniture is designed for an average, statistical space. A custom piece is based on your actual space: columns, sloped ceilings, or the need to coordinate with a piece of furniture you already own—custom design addresses these conditions from the very first sketch, rather than avoiding them.
Solid wood is the primary material, supplemented—when the design calls for it—with MDF, veneers, and laminates—for example, in large-format pieces, where combining materials provides stability without sacrificing the look of solid wood on visible surfaces.
